The Sphinx Elektronik GmbH story
The Sphinx Elektronik GmbH – founded in 1989 by Michael Kohne in Waldkirch – dealt first with the development and manufacturing of memory modules in SMD technology. Later on, the company developed and produced electronic locking systems for the security-oriented access organization to buildings, rooms and equipment. Sphinx relied on a transponder technology with a focus on solutions of electronic access control. As customers of Sphinx, Michael Kohne could win inter alia hotels, banks, retail stores as jewelers and clinics. On the basis of this success story, Sphinx was chosen in 2001 to the 100 most innovative companies in Germany by the magazine „Wirtschaftswoche“. 1998 Häfele – an international leader in the fittings industry – bought the booming business of Michael Kohne.
